This is a lovely song from two very talented local musicians Mélanie Boulay and Jesse Mac Cormack (MAK). In “J’ai mis le feu”, Mélanie Boulay’s pure and resonant voice floats over layered banjos, reverberating keyboards and effected drums. These combined elements make for a dark and ambient track that is at times spooky and plaintive. I love it! If you like what you hear, you can buy the track on Bandcamp for only 1$! They will also be playing at Quai des Brumes on May 19th, 2012. Click here for more info.
“Turn to Stone” is the first track on Jakwob’s mixtape entitled The Prize, which is available for free download on Jakwob’s website. It starts off with a harmonized a cappella introduction and then a dubstep inspired beat kicks in. It continues on with all the right electronic elements: a low, rumbling bass line, clicks and pops and synth swells.
Below is a video of Jakwob performing just about every single instrument in a live version of his single “Electrify” featuring Jetta. Enjoy!

I am picky with my powerhouse vocalists because, more often than not, instead of actually singing, most just yell, but once in a while I find a singer that truly encapsulates what a powerhouse vocalist should be. In this case, that vocalist is Natalie Duncan, an artist who will be releasing her debut album Devil in Me on July 16th, 2012. She is giving away a free download of “Sky is Falling” (live session version) on her website.
Here she is performing a live rendition of her original track “Devil In Me”. Pretty impressive!
